about
There is a song by My Chemical Romance called "Kill All Your Friends" that contains the line "We all want to party when a funeral ends," and that line stuck with us when we wrote the words to this song. It is both sadly true, and untrue at the same time. No one wants the bad stuff to happen, but when it does, what, if anything, can we take away from it? That's the legacy you leave. Also, for anyone curious, that last note is held for 6 and-a-half measures.
This song went through so many variations. At first it was a slow song, where what ultimately became the solo was the original melody. It was called "Jonas' Sweater" because of its similarity to Weezer songs.
EJ took it, reworked it, and brought back the first draft of Legacy. We knew it would be a perfect album closer; an anthem about not taking life for granted, and thus, the final stage of the Quadrillogy was born.
lyrics
This house is haunted, and yet
Haunted by all of my closest friends
And family meant to me
What’s the latest tragedy?
Holiday: A somber getaway
Headed back to better days.
Time of need. Watch me bleed.
Lest my sober eyes deceive
Well-wishers gone, but here I stand
Just who the hell do you think I am?
In my heart, in my soul, I will never be as whole
As the time you were by my side
After all these tears I’ve cried
Look at me! What I could be!
Until the day I die, got my brothers by my side
Underground, I think I’m going down
When I hear that familiar sound
Time of strife to survive.
And this song’s gonna save my life.
Well now you’re gone, but here I stand
Just who the hell do you think I am?
In my heart, in my soul, I will never be as whole
As the time you were by my side
After all these tears I’ve cried
Look at me! What I could be!
Until the day I die, got my brothers by my side
Well now you’re gone, but here I stand
Just who the hell do you think I am?
In my heart, in my soul, I will never be as whole
As the time you were by my side
After all these tears I’ve cried
Look at me! What I could be! (What I could be!)
Until the day I die, got my brothers by my side
I won’t give up! I won’t give in!
I won’t give up! I won’t give in!
That’s the Legacy you leave!
